Therapy Options

What is ABA Therapy?

Applied Behavior Analysis is an individually designed treatment approach for those with Autism Spectrum Disorder. ABA helps increase language and communication skills, improve social skills, and decrease problem behavior. At Aim High we serve families and children with intensive behavioral challenges in any setting as we provide center-based, in-home, and pre-school based therapy options. Aim High Ascent focuses on naturalistic ABA that is directed by your child, but we also incorporate other methods if your child is more receptive to those techniques.

With BCBAs, highly trained behavior technicians, and an evidence-based curriculum, we’re able to provide precise and individually designed treatment that helps your child thrive.

Discrete Trials

Discrete Trials is a method that encapsulates each test into discrete events that is able to be done intensively. Each trial starts by alerting the client to the task at hand. When the correct response is given, an incentive is given. Regardless of the response, it marks the end of a trial and there is a brief pause before the beginning of the next.

Naturalistic Teaching

Naturalistic teaching looks at the real environment of the child. It has a personalized approach based on the child’s daily activities and routines, typically done at home, school, and other settings.

Pivotal Response Training

Rather than specific behaviors, pivotal response training targets areas of a child’s development. Examples include areas like motivation, responsiveness to cues, and self-management. This results in widespread improvements that are not limited to what was specifically addressed.

Incidental Teaching

Incidental teaching uses events in a client’s natural environment as teaching opportunities. The therapist creates the environment and when the client shows an interest in a particular item, elaborates upon it. When the client reacts appropriately, a confirming response or a reward is given.

Fluency Based Instruction

Fluency based instruction aims to make tasks second nature. In addition to accuracy, speed is emphasized. Molecular actions like grasping or pointing are focused on in order to make more complex actions – like opening a jar – more accurate, quick, and competent.

Direct Instruction

Direct Instruction is defined by its fast pace and pre-prepared curriculum. It is based on the theory that children can learn faster if instructions are delivered clearly, concisely, and consistently. A therapist before a session will script out the questions and the responses to what the child answers. They will then follow that script closely.
